Resurrecting an old thread here to save creating a new one.
Just had my car in for a hill holder fault and a brake squeal.
Apparently I need new pads and discs on the front as they are worn and pitted and I need new discs at the rear as they are 'burned?' and binding.
On top of this I need 4 new 19" tyres at £303 each.
I can live with 2 new rear tyres as they are original at 29,000. Fronts were replaced after uneven wear at 18,000 so the new Pirelli's have given just 11,000.
I am surprised though at the discs and pads as almost all of my mileage is motorway. My old 147 was on original discs (not sure about pads) at 58,000. The pads may have been replaced during the 21,000 covered by the first keeper. I think this shows though that I'm not particularly hard on brakes so needing work on all 4 wheels at 29k is a little surprising. I would be inclined to agree with others who have said that ASR/VDC contributes quite a bit towards wear, you just have to look at the brake dust on the alloys. Any opinions?
Oh, and the hill holder fault was ' an invalid value on the longitudinal sensor'. Been reset.
