Drunk 159 1.9JTDm EGR valve....

Just picked up a 159 and drove from Yeovil to Basingstoke on the motorway and didn't get great MPG like expiected. Has anyone got any pic's of where the EGR valve is located on the enigne ??? At the moment I'm getting 38.4mpg(computer reading) and would like to have a look at the valve and see if it's fully closed. I might end up blanking the EGR valve off and see if the MPG improves.

Many thanks

The EGR improves light throttle economy - blanking it makes it worse!

Is it brand new? my 1.9 only ever averaged about 38/39, but you could eventually get 42-44mpg on a gentle motorway cruise once run in.

Hi Davey, if you have just got the car then I would assume it is still under warranty and if you go to the dealer they will usually fit a 'modified' EGR valve gasket for free. Tell them you are getting intermittent hesitation , they fitted one for me for this complaint
That said , 38mpg is not bad for a 159 when driven at about 80mph on a long motorway run although 40+ is attainable at 70mph.
Finally, to answer your question, in the pictures posted by XVX the EGR valve is at the rear right corner of the engine head as you look at his second picture (shown from another angle and close up in the third picture).

Brilliant, just what I wanted. It's still in warranty so I might give the local dealer a call.
