I'm new to the forum and to Alfa, having wanted one for years, circumstances have now allowed me to be able to get one, I'll be collecting a pre reg 159 sportwagon 1.9JTDM lusso in a week or so and am really looking forwrad to it. Would have loved a Ti but with the mileage I do (45K a year), the tyre wear would be too much for my boss!
I actually bought the car AFTER reading some of the threads here, someone less passionate about the brand would run a mile after reading some of the faults. I appreciate this section of the forum is based around sorting issues with the cars and is a fantastic resource. I would just like to reiterate what others have said in previous posts, Alfa are not less reliable than other brands, this is just a bad reputation than has unfairly lingered from the dark and distant past, lets face it Vauxhall, BL/Rover etc didn't excatly set the world alight with their reliability record in the 70's and 80's did they? Anyway just to show that other brands including so called 'premium' brands can have niggles, here's a list of what's been replaced on my current car over the last 140K miles, or 3 years of motoring:
New Turbo actuator mech
New set injectors
Another New set injectors
EGR valve repaired several times
New EGR valve (at last the engine breathes)
New wiper motors (front and rear)
New wiper control stalk
Repainted tailgate due to corrosion (on a 3 year old car)
serious rust on window surround trims (but they won't replace these as it's a day out of it's warranty)
up until last week I had to replace two alloys as they had dented and cracked over potholes (never happened on my old Audi), but last week had to take a big hammer to the other 2 rims after they deformed and took the tyres out too!!
Anyway, Alfa cynics think twice if you are reading this, other brands have faults too, nobody ever notes if things are all okay, hence a forum to help sort things out. It really hacks me off when people slag alfa off due to reliability, I wonder what they think about that paragon of reliability - renault?
Sounds like I'm trying to defend my 159 before I even get it
Never mind, just wanted to put it into perspective that other brands have just as many issues and to all those who said I'm daft and will regret buying an Alfa - prepare to be proved wrong!!
