Ok, went to drive this car today and here are my findings.
The 159 is a very nice, accomplished car, it’s quiet, refined and very comfortable. This 1.9 variant was very underpowered and lacked any sort of acceleration or performance; however, it was nice to drive a petrol car again after so many years of driving diesels, quiet and the ability to rev to 6500rpm! It feels very well screwed together, unlike Alfas of old and I was pleasantly surprised.
With regard to driving experience itself, well what I love about the GT is that it’s a drivers car, the clutch is stiff, the brakes are hard, the ride is harsh, the steering tracks every nook and cranny in the road, it’s got the turning circle of a barge and you really have to drive it, it makes you feel like a driver. In comparison, the 159 was soft, my wife described it like driving ‘air’ she said it was even softer than her Golf. The clutch, steering, gear shifts and brakes are all very light too the touch, this car was designed for the masses, rather than the Alfisti. It lacks a certain passion and is designed quite conservatively.
Overall, I liked it, will go and test drive a diesel and if the performance is as good as my GT, I’ll consider changing it, my only worry is that 6 months after ownership, I might be saying, I wish I kept the GT as this car isn’t giving me the same buzz.
I welcome any feedback, cheers!
