And its goodnight from me - The Sandman family went to chester on Saturday and it went into limp mode on the M62, the 5th time in 16 days/450 miles, I've been reasonable, its spent 9 of those 16 days at the dealers, and its been into their workshop 4 times in total in that time. Limp mode on the M62 isnt funny, and I had to get recovered back from Chester to Newcastle by the RAC, now I've had enough: I contacted the dealer in Leeds (SCC Leeds) and he has helpfully offered a full refund.
I am gutted, its the most I have ever spent on a car for myself, and I loved how it handled and how it looked, the push from the engine (when it worked) was excellent for a 1.9 diesel, and the car was an absolute treat when it was being spanked down some twisty lanes, the looks of other drivers in car parks etc were great.... But its like having a torrid affair with a nymphomaniac supermodel, the 'action' was great, the looks superb, but she's tempremental and moody - I'm spending too much time picking her up and dropping her off at rehab - now its over.
The dealer and Alfa have spectacularly failed IMHO to identify the problem, limp mode activation still happens after
a new DPF and a new ECU. The RAC men spent an hour and a half with me and identified a malfunction with the injectors, apparently they automatically adjust the fuel flow in each cylinder to compensate for over/under fuelling in other cylinders, and this automatic compensation was sometimes extreme, it started to rattle like an old transit engine. It did this to the point that badly burnt fuel/soot was covering the DPF sensor in no time, hence the trip into limp mode.
It may well be fixible, but enough is enough, and the Alfa brand is damaged for me now, so tonight I took it for a last thrash down some twisty's, (just to make it worse for myself) and it gets dropped off at the garage tomorrow, when I get my refund I wont be getting another.
