Idea Anyone know the weight of the new 1750TBi Ti?

Just looking at the brochure for my original spec and fully loaded 2.2 159Ti saloon.

It's quoted as DIN 1490 KG's. I ditched my spare wheel and jack etc in favour of a can of tyre weld so that's gotta be -30kgs.

How does a fully loaded 1750TBi compare I wonder?

Cheers,

Kerb Weight 1430 kg according to Carfolio.com

They also quote power output at 197 bhp - not the full 200 (Its actually 199.7 PS)

Confirms 1490 kg for the 2.2 JTS

Relative Power to weight ratios as follows

1750 TBi 137.76 bhp/tonne
2.2 JTS 122.15 bhp/tonne

Add 50 kg for the SW versions

As all the press know the 159 is GROSSLY HEAVY! Pah! - well from the same source consider that >>>>>>>>>>>>>

BMW 320i 2.0 litre petrol 1445 kg 116.26 bhp/tonne

Audi A4 2.0 TFSi petrol 1430 kg 124.13 bhp/tonne

I wonder if that 1750 weight is for a fully loaded Ti version? The figure I quoted was from the original 2007 ltd ed Ti brochure.

I doubt there is much difference between the TI and "normal" versions.
at most there is 3kg more from the different front seats and the side skirts (which I just installed on mine and they're quite light, maybe 1.5kg).
TI 19" alloys are 14kg pre my08 and 12kg for my08, same as the 18" horseshoes yet 1-2 kg more than the standard 17", same goes with tires weight.
all in all I think a TI is at most 8-10kg heavier than a standard 159, most of the weight difference coming from the 19" wheels.

Either way, the figure for the 2.2 agrees with what you have, so its fair to assume that the TBi is in similar condition - I would think that both figures are empty kerb weights quoted by manufacturer and probably not the same as you would get on a weighbridge.

Agree with Toshy that the differences between Ti and say Lusso spec isn't worth shouting about

Q-Tronic (not on TBi of course - its not an option) adds about 10kg, Q4 (on 2.4JTDm and 3.2 JTS) adds 60 kg

We are slowly learning Toshy - this year we will have Turismo, Turismo Sport, Elegante, Lusso and Ti trim levels - plus a couple of ECO versions

Cheers Mangoletsi, those specs show it as a fair old improvement from the 2.2 JTS. The only thing that concerns me, is with peak torque at 1,400rpm and peak power at 5,000rpm, is it in danger of driving more "like a good turbo diesel" and less like the N/A Alfa engines we know and love? I suppose its hard to say without a test drive.

159ti TBI

As a new owner (bought one in December) of a 2010 159ti TBI I can vouch that the engine doesn't behave like a turbo diesel. It does behave like a VAG petrol turbo engine though rather than on older N/A Alfa engine.

Even Marchionne has said that the 159 was 400KG too heavy and "We will never make that mistake again" Regardless of the raw stats the fuel economy and performance have both been seriously dented against the competition because of the excess lard. Typical Alfa - they just cant win, had to make it solid to make it reliable and then get slated as its overengineered.
As the owner of both I can say that the 1.8 feels signifcantly lighter in the nose than the 2.2, but is none the worse for it and is nice and chuckable. Though i also agree it feels very little like traditional alfa engines of old. Still a great car though

56 1.8TS Lusso, 156 2.0JTS Selespeed Veloce, 159 2.2JTS TI, Mito 1.4TB 120Veloce, 159 1750 TBI TI.

He also said theat the new Giulia will look, smell, feel, and drive like an Alfa of old and compete with the best in class on performance and economy or they wont make it. We shall see? (They probably wont make it then )

The official weights are baloney - one of the members on here weighed his Brera TBi and it was 1550kg, I can't imagine that the 159 would weight any less..
