159 1.9JTDM Overheating Issue

Hi All

Been experiencing an odd issue with my 159 recently. Had since new and iss 2.5 years old 1.9 JTDM

Every now and again it suddenly overheats, I get the message come up on the dash and the temp goes to the top of the gauge. It's not a gradual increase in heat i've watched it go and it just instantly goes from halfway up the gauge where it should be to the very top. Just happens on normal driving.

If I then stick my foot on the clutch, release the accelerator and coast for a little bit, after a bit it again not gradually but instantly drops back to halfway down the temp guage and all is fine again!!!

Any clues, its and odd one. Water level is fine, could be an airlock but seems a little too randomly happening for an airlock. When I say randomly happneing it probably happens once a week at most!!!!

I would watch the water pump and auxiliary belts.

That sounds like an electrical fault. Check the connections to the sensor (wherever it is).

MIne used to do that - if its the same thing, a stop and restart cleared it, as it was indeed an electrical fault - theere was no overheating.
