*EDIT - Hang on lads - I've found the massive threads on the issue! Thanks anyway!*
Morning all! Firstly, my apologies if this has been covered a million times and is a well-known issue. I looked up 'noisy gearbox' threads and couldn't see anything, but perhaps it's too well-known even for that!
As you can tell, I'm a bit of a beginner.
I have a new 159 TI 1.9 JTDm, and after about 500 miles it started emitting a strange noise from the front of the car. It sounds a little like the grinding noise you might get if the wheel bearings weren't right. It is most noticeable in first gear and then becomes gradually quieter as you move up the gears (but never disappears entirely).
So obviously I sent it in to the local dealer, who proclaimed themselves baffled and brought in Alfa technical. Alfa technical have had it for about 4 weeks and called yesterday to tell me that, in fact, the noise is just a characteristic of the car and it is wholly safe (for me and it!) to drive. They know the noise is coming from the gearbox but also think it is partially down to the large wheels on the TI, which doesn't make immediate sense to me.
Firstly, I can't believe that all you guys are out there driving TIs that creak and grind through the low gears, but maybe some of you know what I'm on about? Maybe you all do and I'm just stupid?
Not sure where to go from here as driving the car is a distracting and worrying experience. Am I just worrying over nothing? Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated! Cheers all.
