159 2.4JTD Tuning Box MPG update
Well, I've just gone through my first fill after fitting DieselTuning's Spider box. Bear in mind I had my Dims on throughout day and night.
I used 62.83 litres or 13.8206 UK gallons and I did 493.80 Miles, which comes to 35.73 MPG. A saving of around 1.23 Miles per Gallon compared to what the computer was telling me pre fitting ~ 34.5 MPG. The computer was telling me it was at 39.1 MPG.
The gain is probably greater than 1.23 Miles per gallon as the 34.5 per the computer may have been exaggerated as well, but probably not as much.
So, as the Tuning box cost me around €420 I estimate it will pay for itself in 87k Miles*. Probably a lot lower considering the 34.5 MPG was probably on the high side.
All that and a bucket load more power - It's like two different cars.
On the down side - I really don't know the long term effect on the engine or the DPF, but so far I cannot tell a thing.
Less scientifically - I did my 24 mile journey to work today, and kept it steady (didn't overtake and just went with the flow of traffic) and got up to 46.2 MPG per the Trip computer, which is probably closer to 42.5 MPG after adjustment. But where's the fun in that!
* Current cost of Diesel in Ireland €1.06 per Litre.
