Well as i've had my Bella a week now, and done just over 1400 miles in her, I have to say I absolutely love it, and am glad of the choice I made!
The niggles are:
Tyre noise is intrusive at speed, but running 19's in a short wheel base car is to be expected I guess, as i've found this with similar length cars/large wheels in the past.
Average Fuel consumption is at 33.5mpg currently and should get better as she starts to loosen up and bed in.
The engines still tight as a **** and a bit lethargic in 6th gear doing 70 mph. (i.e. only doing 1800 revs) But that's the beauty of 5 cylinder engines and you find you have to change down a couple of cogs to find the turbo band and get some urgency into the acceleration. So this is not really a niggle, as a good Autodelta box and 2 bar chip mod should see me grin and make it even more drivable in any gear.
Storage: IS rubbish!!
and I really miss not having a sun glasses holder where the grab rail would be if there was one, and of course no cup holder is annoying too.
Wind noise coming through the frameless windows is also noticable at Motorway speeds, and sometimes when passing trucks you really notice it through the passenger door in particular. I had to check it was closed properly the other day.
The USB stick when played seems to loop each track and plays it again and again unless you press 'next' on the steering wheel? I'm not sure if this is just a setting, but I can't seem to find how to stop it? (Dealer still hasn't sent me the missing manuals either
3rd year warranty: Do I really have to fill in the tear out section at the back of the Service book and send it off, or is this not applicable any more? Seem very odd?
The suspension is a bit wallowy on the twistys and makes the car lean far too much in the bends. Also under hard braking it has caused my *** to clench a couple of times
. I'm not sure I can live with that, so may have to see which Eibach/Bilstein set up Prodrive have used in the S to make it handle like it really should.
But now for the great points
When you run out of fuel the display shows '' Cruising distance limited''
God bless the Italians!! That did make me laugh out loud when I first saw it. Made me think of a private Jet lol.
The Blue & Me is really excellent considering it's factory fit, and works really well both with the phone mode and USB playback, apart from the small repeat point above. Although I haven't mastered any voice calls or even seen how you have it read back texts yet?? Anyone?
Bose: I did notice a reduction of quality at first, having had a componant system and 'Perfect 10' sub in the previous car, but I now have become adjusted to the Bose and do quite like it. It does have some power, and holds it own not distorting easily letting you achieve some good bass results.
The Panaramic roof is a great touch and really makes the cabin airy on dull days and a really pleasant space to occupy and be in!
The looks!! How can you not be bowled over every time you look at it!!!
Every time I see something different and some small detail that I hadn't noticed before. I always have to look back after i've parked up, usually several times!
I also find myself parking as far away from other cars as possible to avoid parking dents etc, and so it can be admired in full.
Presence: It really does make you have that feel good factor! I actually feel quite posh driving the Brera, and have that warm feeling inside that makes you grin from ear to ear at all those boring barstewards in their German 3 Cerial boxes stuck together cars!
I mean do they actually have a personality???
5 Cylinder burble! I tell you for a diesel under full chat it doesn't half growl and bark!! It makes a few heads turn when you accelerate off the line...
I can't wait to remove the crappy Alfa exhaust and airfilter, and really let her breath properly. The 1.9 sounded great once the induction and exhaust was sorted, so this is gonna be awesome. Can anyone recommend a performance exhaust company that's done diesel Breras before?
Interior quality: The seats, the dash materials, the brushed alluminium, the foot lighting in the doors, layout of the clocks facing the driver etc is really excellent, and gives it a real luxury feel.
Rake and Reach: I'm really impressed particuarly with the reach of the steering wheel. Most brands fail in this area, but in the Brera you can have the seat right back and still not have to stretch to hold the steering wheel comfortabley, and find a relaxed position.
Exclusivity: Being able to drive 200 miles down the M6/M1 from Manchester to London and not see another is worth the asking price alone.
Any comments or help with some of the above points greatfully recieved
ps: why don't these show on the page and show as links instead?
