Almost an owner...
My wife wants to change her car (MX5 2.0 sport) so last weekend we went down to our local dealer to check out a new spider. Having poked and prodded at she decided she didnt like it as much as her MX5.
While walking out she noticed a grey brera and has decided that she wants one as she fell in love with the styling. Our local dealer didnt have the colour she wanted so we found a couple of likely cars at other dealers and arranged to go and see them today.
So, fast forward to today.
Dealer 1 - test drove a 2.2 JTS in black but with a non leather interior. She loved the way it drove and the dealer was great. They are getting a 2.4 JTD in next week with a leather interior and we have arranged to go and try that next weekend. Had to hunt around for somebody to talk to when we arrived and took quite a bit of convincing to let us drive the car. The none leather really makes the car feel a little cheap so rejected.
Dealer 2 - dealer was frankly an idiot. Started well when he walked out to meet the wife and I as I parked up in their car park. He then only talked to me even though we made it clear the car was for the wife, and she was quite capable of having her own opinion. He then spent 10 minutes bemoaning the fuel economy and telling me we couldnt live with a 3.2 because of it. How he failed to notice that my car is an E60 M5 which only does 12mpg is beyond me. I think he wanted to put us off a 3.2 as he didnt have one and sell the car he had.
Needless to say we said goodbye and left.
Now I have learnt a couple of key things today about Alfa:
- the dealers are pretty poor, not at all what I am used to in terms of customer service and more importantly attention to detail
- the quality of the car prep was also pretty poor (one brand new brera S had the logo part of the seat back on the floor!)
- the general car finish and build quality seemed questionable
But none of this matters to the wife - she loves the brera and i have little doubt there will be one on our drive shortly.
For me, I would have walked away and headed to my (safe) BMW/Merc/Audi etc dealer to spend my hard earned.
So I guess the wife is "addicted" against my better judgement.
