Three days ago my 159 1.9JTM Sportwagon started to flash up that I should "Change the engine oil" only 2500 miles after the last service. As this is my seventh Alfa I know not to take too much notice of electronic warnings but I dropped into my local service dealer, Kinghams of Croydon, to see if I could book it in to have it looked at under waranty. To my surprise they offered to look at it quickly straight away and that way if spares were needed they could be ordered up for when I brought it back.
To cut a long story short, they reset the warning electronics there and then, gave the car a general health check, identified I needed some new bumper fixings under waranty that were corroding, washed and valeted the car and handed it back to me clean and fixed within 45 minutes.
During that time I had been chatted to as a human being, watched a motoring video, read an Italia car magazine and been plied with coffee and fresh fruit.
No charge of any kind was made for this attention even though Keith Kingham said that Alfa would not pick up any waranty costs for work of this kind.
I am not slow to criticise when service is not to an appopriate standard so I thought it only fair to point up when in my opinion it has been exceptional.
Over the years Kinghams have looked after my Alfas on and off and they have never been less than courteous and efficient but in my view the service I got this morning was above and beyond the call of duty.
My brother, another Alfa nut has just given up on them simply because of the dreadful service he has received for his Alfa GT. He has bought a Honda but is missing the driving pleasure of his Alfas already. He had just had enough of faults not remedied and an attitude that they were always his fault! Sadly he is too far away to take advantage of the service I am used to.
Well done Kinghams.
