An update: I tried to drive the car this morning (after a night's rest) and to my surprise the turbo was boosting more than half way...but the relactance of the car to pull, especially at first gear, was still there.
I decided to drive down to the garage and hook it up on the diagnostic...which came up with MAF sensor error !
After a good clean and a ride around the block...the problem was still there. However, once I disconnected the MAF sensor completely the car suddenly sprung up to life...everything came back to as it was before...normal acceleration etc...
I guess that the symptoms were already a sign that the MAF sensor was not working....and the cleaning of EGR valve, which made the car breathe better, only made the problem more pronounced.
I have arranged for the sensor to be replaced next week....Fortunately, it is something which is covered by the warranty and it won't cost me anything...which means a saving of £268 !!
Maybe whoever has similar problems could have a look at the MAF sensor...All these beautifully made and very robust german electronics !!
