2 Years and still no resolution - 2.2 Spider Problems
I purchased my Spider from Benfield Motors, Newcastle in May 2007, I wont catalogue the issues I had just buying it and taking delivery, but I immediately noticed a few problems. Its a long story but in short the main issues remain as: a/ No airflow in the arm rest. b/ Engine Hesitation.
Benfield had the car for over 6 weeks (on and off over a few months), and were unable to repair the arm rest.
May 2008, after 1 year, my Insurance Company took up the claim, and we had an independant report commissioned. This agreed there was no air-flow in the arm rest and the car had a flat spot requiring "above average revs to overcome the hesitation which could result in clutch slip".
Recommended to go to another dealer, so started to use Alexanders, Stockton who were brilliant. The fixed the airflow, but it failed soon after.
Well the months passed, numerous letters, emails, voicemails and meetings with ARUK, all without success, they all told me there was nothing wrong, yet no-one could, or can demonstrate how to 'control' the temperature in my "temperature controlled" arm rest.
I was peruaded to try Benfield again, they have moved with a new Management/Technical Team.
Again, in brief: I visited Benfield and they agreed, there is hesitation, they all have it so nothing can be done! They agreed the armrest had no airflow, and they would like the opportunity to fix it for me.
Here's the catch: ARUK REFUSED to allow this to be done under warranty as they had spent enough on this particular problem already, so if I wanted Benfield to FIX it, I would have to pay for the work, which involves a lengthy strip down of the car....... err NO !
Benfield agreed to talk to ARUK's new regional Technical rep for me, then Benfield came back to me to tell me there was now NOTHING wrong with my car and they would not fix it for me !
My Solicitor re-sent the report, done in May 2008, but Benfield refused to accept this as it's a year old. So I'm now having to get another report done...
Anyway, bottom line is I'm totally fed up with Benfield, and Alfa. I'm clearly not going to get a 'Temperature Controlled Arm Rest' as per the manual/marketing literature, and obviously the hesitation issue will never be resolved.
I find it incredible, that Benfields 'self appointed' "Best Technicians in the Country" can tell me the arm-rest IS defective and they CAN fix it, and then after a call to ARUK decide it is NOT defective and they WONT fix it.
Dont be fooled by smiles, coffee and false promises, nothing seems to change! Customer Service ! Well that doesnt seem to exist when you have a tricky problem no one can fix !
I for one will NEVER buy another car from Benfield, nor will I recommend them, or Alfa Romeo to the many Customers and Clients I meet.
