I visited Red Dot in Enfield today, met a few other Alfaowners, we never exchanged forum names though so I don't know who they are!!
Anyway after A 1.9 Gt, a black 159 SW and a nearly new 159 LE got the treatment it was my turn on the dyno.
Simple, painless procedure it was, the one scary bit was the guy running your engine up to 4k on the rollers, with the car stationary.
The first set of readings for my 1.9 JTDm were 215ft lb torque and 161.6bhp at the flywheel! extra free bhp from Alfa eh!
After the download the waiting, what will I get on the next readings?!!! Torque was up to 273.6 ft lbs and the Bhp is now a grin inspiring 194.4 bhp.
But what is it like on the road? I don't know how they did it, must be magic, I'm waiting for the spell to wear off, but somehow, the guys have dropped a new engine in my car, it's a dream, the engine the car deserves! The power delivery is just so smooth, in fact, even standing at tick over (who cares?) the engine sounds smoother. Much more tractable through the gears and once I cleared the 7 mile tailback to get back over the Dartford crossing to the civilised side
I had a couple of opportunities whilst cruising at a little over 70 to floor the loud peddle, without any fuss the car surged up to an unpublishable figure.
At last my 159 is complete, the engine it deserves. If you own an Alfa with a 1.9JTDm, do yourself a favour, do the car a favour, get a remap. Don't say you cant afford it, go without food for a month (easy one that, you just visit more relatives), but get it done, you will LOVE it!
Big thanks to the guys at Red Dot, the guy with the hang over driving the computer and (was that really George Clooney) doing the techy bit!
