Some of you may be aware I sold my GT about a month ago and have been after a TI since. I got a good deal from David at Picadilly and took ownership of a pre reg'd last Thurs with 30miles on the clock.
All along i wanted a 1.9 Diesel TI in Carbonia and black leather, however the offer was for Tan leather which I have to say i absolutely love and would now chose it over the black interior. It really does add to the already classy interior.
The car itself is everything i'd hoped for, it really does seem a step up in terms of build and driving dynamics from the GT (a car i loved)....the cabin is far superior and a very quiet, comfortable place to be - almost a sense of occasion. The handling & steering are both spot on and the car feels very planted with the excellent suspension really absorbing the road. I found the GT crashy and you really notice a huge difference in this area. Put it this way my wife and 2 kids all fell asleep for 30mins on the way home the car is that comfy...a first !
I don't need to tell you about the looks of the TI - for me there's nothing to touch it short of lottery money....was amazed how much attention the car still get's even though it's been aorund a couple of years....took me back to my RX8 days when I was one of the first owners in my area.
There seems to be a lot more toys on the 159 so i'm still reading up on those (not even used the Blue & Me or Ipod connector yet)
The one downside of the much improved build quality is the weight of the car, it doesn't seem happy at low revs and is much happier at 30mph+.....this seems to be reflected in the economy which returned a dissapointing 37.8mpg for a 100 trip out today. Small beer for such a wonderful car.
Only other gripe I can think off is why electric folding mirrors are not standard now....i guess they only come with the electric seats ?
My reservations about the move from the GT to the Ti were totally unfounded and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.
As Top Gear magazine says if Alfa have finally sorted the reliability gremlins on the 159 it's a serious contender for the BMW 3-Series....that's some accoladae regardless how dull the BM is.
Will post further thoughts in a few weeks but i just hope I can somehow avoid kerbing those gorgeous alloys
