Its a crying shame about this car.
Having test driven the car (I was given a quarter of a tank of petrol told where the nice roads around Stoke were and the keys and was sent on my way - big thumbs up to Platts for that) I put a deposit on the car.
I received a phone call 2 days before I was due to collect the car. Sorry sir, there was a problem during the MOT, the timing chain slipped and the engine seized and there has been some serious damage done to the engine. Platts, give them their due, told me straight up and offered to return my deposit. Now I left it with them on the basis that if they replaced the engine, I'd be very happy with a suitable discount.
Alfa Italy is due to be sending someone over as its the first (if not one of the first) that they have heard of this happening to the GM v6 engine. I asked if they are going to rebuild the engine or replace it. They don't know at this stage so I withdrew my deposit, a rebuilt engine will never be the same IMHO.
This car was great when I viewed it. It had all the options, was in great condition and looked really good in the silver. Such a shame that its history will be tarnished with a potential engine rebuild.
