Re: Car Care Extended Warranty - Tesco, CSMA or Alfa
I was also faced with this choice last October, and I too looked carefully through the CSMA policy document. All versions with CCP are excellent, however I went with the Alfa 4th Year warranty as this is the most comprehensive of the lot. For instance, I have the 1.9 JTD and the CSMA warranty specifically excludes the oil cooler matrix. There may be other exceptions as well, but I just went with the Alfa 4th year version for peace of mind.
By the way, the quote of £350 from Alfa is about the best you'll get - others have been quoted more than this from the dealers (it's up to the dealers how much they want to load the premium - they pay the base premium due to CCP and then load the premium themselves for their own profit - or rather the euphemistic explanation that 'we need to cover our admin costs' ).
One important caveat though with regard to the Alfa 4th year warranty. This comes in two versions: 'Premier' and 'Standard'. Make sure their quote is for the 'Premier' version - this is the comprehensive one, don't go for the 'Standard' cover as it's not worth it (not compared to Tescos or CSMA anyway). The 'Premier' version also comes with MOT insurance as standard - everything should be covered when you come to MOT at the end of the 4th year (CSMA has this option as well).
Of course we're talking 4th year here. When mine expires it'll definitely be CSMA for me, the premium with 10% online discount is unbeatable.
