My 159 Ti (09 plate) has developed an irritating problem with its breaks. It has a nasty and annoying shudder when I am lightly breaking in traffic and which is even more annoying when coming off a motorway and braking up a slip road.
I took it into my local dealer - Benfield Alfa of Newcastle - about 3 weeks ago whose mechanic test drove it and couldn't find anything wrong. 2 weeks later I returned and asked for another test, where I went out with the mechanic, and yes he could feel the problem. He said that he would be able to tell Alfa that it was warped discs and that he would get the new front discs and pads ordered. 1 more week goes past and the parts are in and off I go to have them fitted. Only to be phoned in the afternoon to say that Alfa is not going to pay for the replacement under warrenty and that they (Benfield) would order the parts but that it would cost me about £300. I said forget it. It's on a 3 lease and its not even 2 years old yet (June) and has only done 29,000 miles. (26,000 when it started).
Is this normal to expect to have to change the discs (and therefore pads) before 30k on a 159Ti ? (Itís the 19JTMD version). I am not rallying it !
When you add this problem to really fast and what I think is excessive tyre wear (<10,000 miles) it makes the Alfa 159 Ti sadly an unsustainable financial business proposition. Which is really sad when I like the car and it is a really nice car to drive.
Any suggestions ?
P.S. I have to say that the guys at Benfield are really nice and have been very helpful todate - so if your reading this Dax sorry but it seems Alfa UK have let you down.
