That's so true!
I was looking to buy a Spider 3.2 last year, mostly (brera/spider) out there are auto...
Nothing wrong with driving an auto, it is still a fabulous car.
I was very opposed to autos in the past, thinking they were driven by 'old people' or were just taking the fun out of driving.
Then a couple of my mates had autos - one in a BMW, one in a Jag. They both sung the praise.
I was slowly coming round to this way of thinking : electric windows, power assisted steering, automatic lights, electric seats - so many things electric in cars, so many 'assisted' gadgets and yet the majority of us are still shunting a stick around in our cars every journey. I spend quite a bit of time in the US and always have an auto there - and it never bothers me. BUT when I found my current spider I thought 'wow' the interior is exciting, 'wow' it has great spec, 'oh no it's auto!'
It took me lots of contemplating before I took the plunge and bought it; the whole auto thing bit at my brain.
But here's the thing: I really don't think I could go back to manual now! For driving around the city (and London, at that) it is perfect (when I had a Mito for a week I actually got quite annoyed by having to change gear myself!) and if I want a more exciting ride I hit the 'sport button' and watch the fuel disappear - OR I knock the stick over and have all the fun of gear control myself (but without the hassle of a clutch).
(Sorry if I've hijacked this thread - I do think that autos get bad press and wanted to sing their praise.)
