Papa - The 2.0 Scirocco is a lovely drive....really feels like you are shifting, nice engine note with wonderful handling as well....pity they are so new & pricey as I think you'd probably end up in one....the looks although not breraesque are still fairly tidy...saw one in white today and looked very nice.
I think the 1.8T engine coming soon to the Brera will give it the ooomph people like you were expecting.
The Scirocco's problem, it's a VW. I know of 6 fairly new VW's that have caused nothing but trouble.
2 friends have current Passats. 1 was off the road for 3 months, due to a failed fuel pump. And there were quite a few at that stage in '08. It's been back to the dealer 5 times. Other Passat been back to the dealers for warranty work, failed ABS system.
Colleagues Golfs x2. One a '55 other '07. Both been back for massive electrical failures. The 07 has been replaced now with a similar car by VW.
Otherhalfs brother, brand new golf. Broke down Saturday. I told him not to..
Our VW Polo GTI. New gearbox, heads been off as head gasket failed, ABS system faliure. Air con replaced by VW. New Power Steering system failure.
Would I buy a VW? No. I was told VW build quality is one of the best, reliable, everything an Alfa is not!!!!!!! I wanted to buy a 156 when we bought the VW. What a mistake!
