Re: Brera owner to be
OK I've not long been back from my 340 mile round trip (must be mad) to test drive the Brera! From Wales to Yorkshire, what a trip! Well what can i say? upon arrival the Brera was waiting for me on the forecourt, aggressive stance, mean, wide very exotic looking, certainly one of the best looking cars on the forecourt, no, i'll rephrase that, one of the best looking cars in the world! However it's not all good news I'm afraid. Interior was nice but didn't feel special, despite a sea of read and cream leather and brushed aluminium. Head and leg room were tight and I'm only 6 foot but the driving position felt OK. Engine was quite noisy but didn't sound as nice as all the YouTube vids suggest, rather normal actually but great considering it was diesel. Handling felt good and weighty but my size 14 feet kept getting trapped when switching from the accelerator to the brake! Ride was firm but not uncomfy in any way. But the biggest let down was the power... despite almost 300ft/lbs of torque and 200 BHP, it felt very slow considering. I'm not sure why, all the stats look good on paper but it didn't even bring a smile to my face, something that my Fiat Panda did surprisingly! I was expecting it to throw me back into my seat but no, nothing but noise.
So believe it or not, i was actually looking forward to getting back in my Fiat Panda, and it made me appreciate what a good little car it is. 340 miles with only 2 stops, very comfy and 55 MPG even when doing 85 to 90 MPH all the way home. I recommend trying a Panda diesel to anyone because in comparison to the Brera it feels fast, it's practical, cheap and economical (my best being 82 miles per gallon). If looks could sell a car i would have bought the Brera, had it been in slightly better condition, but for £13500, my money could buy me something a bit more exciting imo. I can't imagine anybody parting with close to £30,000 for a new one if I'm honest. Sadly i was very disappointed but i haven't ruled it out completely, the looks may just sell it to me one day.
