Almost one year into ownership (car coming up on 2 years old) and had my first significant problem today. After driving about 30 miles without incident the car suffered a total loss of power when I was in slow moving traffic and looking for a parking space. Luckliy, just manged to coax it to the side of the road befire it conked out - as it did the warning "low engine oil presure, stop and turn off engine" came up on the display.
Restarted car ok but no power - idling revs sitting at almost zero and needed to almost floor accelerator to get them to 1,000!! Could barely get the car to move an inch without it conking out again. Turned it off and left the car for about 45 minutes - then returned and there was no change, still zero power. Phoned the AA, waited about 1 hour 15 mins for the guy to arrive - tried the car about 4 times during the wait and no change. Finally, about 10 minutes before the AA arrived I turned the car on and noticed some improvement in power but still not 100%.
AA guy arrived and could find no fault - oil levels fine - no surprise there as oil and filter change done by dealer only 3 weeks ago. Started car again and power seemed to be more or less back to normal. Drove the car to the dealer in Edinburgh (about 30 miles) with AA escort behind (embarassing
) - car drove fine and power seemed normal. Dealer did diagnostic check and could find nothing wrong and seemed to have no clear idea of what was causing it and whether or not it would recur. Drove the car home and told to get back in touch with dealer if the problem recurs. Explained to dealer my concern that if this had happened on motorway at high speed then I would have been up the creek
Dealer agreed but seemed powerless to do anything positive about it
A few questions spring to mind - has anyone else suffered the same and if so what was the outcome? is this likely to be related to the inlet manifold issue others have mentioned on here? if not, what else might it be? what should I be asking the dealer to do (car is due in for service in 3 weeks time)?, car still within initial 2 year warranty so if this is likely to be a recurring problem I'd like to get it sorted out now. Your suggestions please
