Had my 159 jtdm for a week and a day now.
On Friday I started out from work to go to Britol to pick my boys up. The car was cold after sitting outside my office for 7 hours.
I came to a junction, paused, in 1st gear, tried to pull out, the engine had zero power, juddered and then stopped. I thought I had stalled it, a little embarrassed I restarted and tried again. It did this 4 times. I put the hazards on as I was 6 feet across a cross road junction! 5th time it fired and pulled away. Each time is started fine, then struggled to rev, giving up when tried to pull away.
I drove with vigour for the next 200 miles, some busy stop/start motorway and other full on motorway driving. Did the same for the return 200 miles.
I have since been wary of junctions/pulling away, making sure there are plenty of revs.
Having been a Saab owner and member of saabscene.com I am aware of many of the 1.9tdi units doing this, but they usually seem to throw up a "Check Engine" light. There were no lights on the alfa when it did this to me.
I filled up with Shell diesel the day before. The mpg has been good since purchase.
I had a ridiculously low mpg on a motoway run the second day of ownership, 23mpg at 70mph. I pu this down to the dpm or whatever it is called that needs to re-gen!
Does this stalling/stopping sound like an egr?
Has been as good as gold since then, have ragged it for the week really, trying to blow any cobwebs away it may have had after a few weeks of no use.
It has 61K miles and is 26 months old.
