GT or Brera

I intend to change my 156 'wagon later this year for either a Brera or a GT.

I have found the 2.4 diesel a great engine but too heavy at the front end for my Scottish roads.

How does the Brera perform with the 2.4 on bumpy roads?

Re: GT or Brera

The chassis on the Brera and 159 is so superior to the 156/GT chassis that the 2.4 lump is easily handled. My 159, which is a lot heavier than the Brera, has been hustled across some fairly challenging Perthshire and Galloway roads with aplomb. My old 156 2.4 was a nightmare on some of these roads.

What Fraser said.

The back roads where I live aren't particularly great but I never find the ride harsh or the handling poor.

Sure, there is more weight over the front wheels in the 2.4 compared to the 2.2 but that's not to the detriment of the car's handling. It's still very poised and well set up.

Re: GT or Brera

This is a question which is relevant to me as well. I'm a very happy Brera owner at the moment, but in just under a year, the lease deal runs out & I'll also need more rear legroom for the kids. This means I'm looking at the GT as the likely replacement. Possibly a 159sw 2.4, but money being a bit tight, the GT looks superb vfm on the 2nd hand market. eg Blacklines for under £15k, & 3.2's for £10-12k. Thats a whole load of car for the money, I think.
OK, so the build quality is of the previous generation, but there doesn't seem to be many reports of bad unreliability, just occasional rattles, etc. I even like the interior of the GT, but maybe if I had already owned a 147/156, the step up to the Brera interior would be appreciated.
I would think that coming from a 156, the Brera will feel better built, more solid & more heavy, which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on your point of view.
A re-mapped Blackline vs a 2.4 Brera for a similar price would make an intruiging side-by-side comparison, I'd think.

My GT is not very good on bumpy roads, the Brera is fine though

Re: GT or Brera

The GT is way more practical in terms of space and although it's fun (3.2 V6), it is jittery, unsettled and flexi on poor roads. The Brera is really a 2 seater like the GTV but it's built on a great chassis and is miles ahead in terms of material & build quality. Also, no 2.4 in the GT.

Brera. GT is lovely, but too long in the tooth. Feels a bit old inside to me and is nowhere near the build quality of the current gen cars.

Re: GT or Brera

I've only had my Brera for 2 months, and I did drive both - I agree, GT not anywhere NEAR the feel of the Brera.
