Clunky gearbox when cold...
Ok - this is my first new thread on here, and faving fairly recently purchased a 2nd hand Alfa 159 3.2 Q4 (34k miles), I wanted to pose a question to all you experts out there.. When starting from cold (i.e. in the morning), there is a definite problem when changing from 1st to 2nd gear - quite a loud 'ker-chunk' and vibration actually. In fact, the only way to change smoothly is to hold the clutch in a little longer than usual and let the engine revs drop before engaging 2nd gear.
After about five minutes driving, however, the problem starts to recede - and when the engine is fully warm, the problem disappears completely.
I've scanned through some of the threads on this forum, and it would appear I'm not the only one with a 'notchy' gear change, although I'm not convinced that my problem is exactly the same as others described. Can anybody shed any light on this? Is it normal? I've actually got it booked into the local dealer in a couple of weeks for investigation (the car still has manufactures warranty until September), but I'd like to get clued up on the potential causes \ resolutions in case the dealer is less than helpful. Anyone?
