Re: Alfa 159 1.9JTDM Buy/not
I wish i had got the 159 in the first place. Don't get me wrong the 407 is a brilliant car. The handling is not that great when quickly changing direction, and i have had issues with the elctronics which pug have fixed.
I also have a whinning noise coming from the Gearbox/Diff, although i think this is normal for the 407 depending on which gearbox and diff was fitted as they use two different maufactures.
The question is do i spend £1000 fixing the pug or get a £5-6K loan and part-ex the pug for a second hand 159 with 20-30K on the clock, but this may also end up having a DMF issue.
I think it all depends on the waranty i would get with the alfa, and what kind of extended waranty i could buy afterwards, as the clutch and DMF takes 8hrs on the 159, due to the way the engine is layed out, where as the pug is 4hrs. Well at least that is what google tells me.
some people suggest that there was a solid flywheel that fiat offered as a replacment instead, which cost less, but added some virbration at idle. not sure how true this is.
But if you google Fiat 1.9JTD you find loads of people with clutch and DMF issues at low mileage (20-36K). So maybe the petrol is the best option as it will save me £1000 straight off and the car will cost less. but then google suggested that some petrols have DMF's in them now arrr.
Do you find the 1.9JTDm more responsive/faster than the 407 or are they basically the same. i know the 0-60 is around the same for both cars even though the pug is 136bhp: -
Alfa 195 - 0-60 = 8.9s (1490 kg) - 1.9JTDm 16v Lusso 4d - 320 Nm
407 HDI - 0-60 = 9.5s (1580 kg) - 2.0L HDI - 320 Nm
