Re: Spent a fortune on my 159!
If a 096 type battery fits, (I have no experience on that front) then Alfa dealers are not the only place to get one. Battery prices have shot up in the last 15 months due to China being so mineral hungry. A year ago, I could have sold a Bosch 096 for £60+vat.
It is not unusual for batteries to be application specific nowadays. Batteries are huge now because of more electrics and high compression diesel engines. 15 years ago alternators were very, very rarely rated at more than 60 or 70 amps. Large cars usually have 150amp alternators now and batteries capable of discharging 600-700 amps in service.
Personally, I always fit a good battery. Cheap batteries are a false ecomony for someone keeping a car. A good battery will last 2-3 times longer than a cheap one. It will also perform at maximum for much longer. The geunine Alfa batteries seem like a mixed bag, or is it just because some cars may have been sitting about a while? Inactivity, especially whilst discharged will ruin a battery quite quickly.
