The point of a rev counter is the bit on the end of the needle.

A rev counter is all pseudo sporty s*ite really isn't it. If you can't hear or feel when you engine pulls its best or is revving its nuts off, or is over the top of the power curve then you have had your ears cut off or you have all the mechanical sympathy of a car crushing machine.
Rev counters were originally used in racing cars to stop people over revving. These days we have rev limiters, so its all aspirational marketing and fluff really....if we are brutally honest. But they are 'Fun' arn't they...even if they are not that accurate.....
