As you know from previous posts, I am leaving the UK for Dubai in 3 weeks. I've flogged the 159 and the GT........cry...cry. I have been committed to the brand since 2000 and have had 5 cars (GT, 159, 2 x 156s and a 166) so my Alfisti credentials are good.
I have narrowed my car choices down to either (read below to see why I am even questioning the Alfa Purchase!):
Alfa 159 3.2V6 JTS Q4 Auto - MY08, Alfa Red with beige Pieno Frau leather only done 6k miles, fully loaded with Xenons, Bose. Its an ex-demo machine. Only 8 months old. Requires servicing every 10k km due to heat and dust. I can't afford a new one as they are almost £40k in UAE!!!
Lexus IS300 (they don't do 250, just the 3.0V6) - brand new loaded with leather and rear parking camera, Mark Levinson sound system, etc. The Lexus is brand new but £1.5k cheaper than the used Alfa. Requires servicing every 5k km.
Now I have just test driven the IS250SR Auto in the UK and it was very, very good. OK its not got the character of the 159 and is a different beast but it was sensational - very composed and beautifully put together. I have to say, getting back in the 159 seemed a bit of a come down....
Here's my thoughts on pluses and negatives of each
+ Always wanted a V6 - what a soundtrack (ok not Arese but brill!)
+ sensational looks and rare in UAE - exclusivity
+ Loaded - electric seats et al
+ 4 wheel drive & safety NCAP 5*
+ Alfa Red/Beige leather combo
+ Requires servicing only every 10,000kms
- More expensive than a new Lexus IS.......
- Only one dealer with not a great reputation for service
- known minor irritations - autobox holding gears for too long, screen creak, mirror, etc
+ Reliability & excellent build quality
+ Cheaper than demo 159
- No exclusivity
- Needs servicing every 5K km
So there you have it - what would you do?
