159 3.2 V6 rattle/buzz on cold start
I started a thread on this subject quite a few months back when I just bought my 159 - although I titled that thread '3.2 l V6 tappety at cold start'.
I have now had the car for 6 months and it has been to the dealer (in Auckland, New Zealand) 6 times now to try and correct the problem.
On cold start, the engine has a very audible buzz/rattle/whir that changes with engine speed. It can take up to 10 minutes of driving to go away - even with the water temperature up to normal.
This is not a quiet background noise - this is an 'in your face' rattle - enough that it is embarrassing when you have an important client in the car and even more so when all your 'mates' hassle you about the 'high quality' Alfa you bought.
Strangely, at times it quietens down for a few days - enough that you think the problem has - fingers crossed - gone away. Then you jump in one morning, push the button and the rattle is back.
The dealer has tried a number of different fixes - all to no avail. Now they inform me that a number of cars in both New Zealand and Australia have this problem - and no-one knows how to fix it.
I haven't seen anyone else complain on alfaowner.com about this and would really appreciate hearing from others who have this problem.
It would hurt me horribly to let this car go - I love it's looks and long drives on quiet twisty roads - but the longer I hang onto it, the more I worry about not being able to sell it to anyone else in the future once it is out of warranty.
Alfa don't seem to be able to fix it, so I am getting pretty close to suggesting to them that they take it back and give me my money back.
Apparently the problem has been referred to Italy - but I can't imagine that this problem is confined only to New Zealand or Australia, so why it has taken 6 months with no resolution I just don't know.
If anyone has similar issues or better still - a solution - I would very much appreciate a response.
