Re: 159 3.2 V6 rattle/buzz on cold start
An update on DRM159 - the originator of this thread...
Euromarque - the original dealer that sold me the car - in my opinion walked away from their responsibilities to their customer. They would take the car into their workshop to 'investigate' the problem - but wanted me to lose it for 3 - 4 weeks. The best replacement car they would offer in the interim was a Fiat Punto - and felt I was being petty by suggesting that this was not very equitable. They would offer no guarantee of a fix. They would not buy the car back and would only trade the car down to a GT worth significantly less than a normall 159 (ie one without a rattle) if I put more money in - work that one out.
The car has been at Italian Autos in Auckland for the last week and a half and Barry Bateman is pretty confident he has it fixed. To be fair to Euromarque, they suspected high pressure fuel lines buzzing on the fire wall and Barry could make the problem occur or disappear simply by letting the line touch the fire wall or not. So big thanks to Barry - if it is actually fixed....
Continental Car Services in Auckland had the car seven times - and were told of this as a potential fix - but seemed to know better and ignored it, replacing all manner of items to no avail. I think this speaks volumes about this outfit - they used to be good, but their motto - 'a passion for fine automobiles' died with company founder Tim Bailey a few years ago.
So, I think/hope that DRM159's buzz/rattle on cold start is finally fixed - nine months later, eight visits to an Alfa authorized workshop later, dozens and dozens of e-mails later and one month in total without the car in nine months of ownership.
I think you can say that the Alfa dealer network in New Zealand is in some disarray - and I have found that when push comes to shove, at least four NZ Alfa dealers aren't interested in supporting their customers.
So, prospective Kiwi purchasers of an Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Maserati or Citreon - I whole heartedly recommend that you avoid Euromarque in Christchurch. I will never be back there - and will do my best to avoid Continental Car Services in the future also...
