Generally the timing belt oxidises and becomes brittle as it ages (and remember some of the 159's will have been sat round a while before selling too).
If there is 0w-30, theoretically that would be better too, as it won't be quite as thick (so will warm faster), but make sure it ticks the Alfa tick boxes.
I've not changed my oil yet but went for the Mobil 1 New Life 0w-40 (I do a lot of motorway runs, so a lot of it is spent at optimum temperature, and the higher number will mean slightly lower wear)
