I don't think you have anything to apologise for, you went and tried the car, it seems like you wanted it to work for you but for whatever reason you couldn't get comfortable in it. That's an important factor in choosing a vehicle and I understand entirely why if you can't get comfortable you'd walk away. FWIW your disappointment comes across as genuine. I don't agree with you that it's difficult to find a good driving position in a Brera but that's a different story !
What winds me, and others up, is that there is a small group of people who are not Brera/Spider/159 owners who continue to spin the same old broken record about rubbish new Alfas being too heavy, not fast enough, rubbish engines etc etc etc Often these people have limited experience of the cars and I think it is fair to venture in some cases (as Commanderfish so delicately points out
) they have no intention of buying one because they don't have the wherewithal but nonetheless are quite happy to snipe from the sidelines. It's a bit like me saying I wouldn't go out with Claudia Schiffer because I don't much fancy her. It doesn't matter a toss because it's never going to happen......!
To be fair it's not about money it's more about manners. This sort of behaviour is downright rude and it's not something I have seen on any other car forum. Personally it baffles and really annoys me. I'm a member of a Land Rover forum and Discovery owners don't pop up in the Range Rover or Freelander rooms and start slagging off their vehicles. It never happened on Audi, VW, Subaru and Honda forums I've been a member of in the past. I don't own a 156 and can't ever see myself doing so either and in fact the same probably applies to the brand new MiTo but I wouldn't dream of taking the time out of my day to visit either lounge and post a thread along the lines of "I think your cars are rubbish, I've no intention of buying one and I'm now about to tell you why" - I just can't see why somebody would do this ? Would they do it in real life ? Do people like Spider95 and MikeyW stop people in the street or say to their mates in the pub "Look mate I know you've chosen her and you're very happy but I wouldn't go near your Mrs in a thousand years and let me spell out why ....." ? Of course they wouldn't but it's easy to be a hero in cyberspace.
Life is all about choices and when it comes to cars these choices are often highly (irrationally ?) emotive. Quite why people derive pleasure in trying to convince somebody who has made such a choice that they are wrong/stupid/ill-informed or worst of all (
) not a "real Alfisti" is beyond me. Why somebody would want to do this over and over again is even further beyond me ! The vast majority of Brera/Spider/159 owners love their cars and chose them for a host of different reasons - I wish people would just accept this and leave it at that.
