Re: Air Con mystery
The compressor (ie, the aircon) turns on and off by itself when the climate control has been set to automatic. It turns the air-con on when it is needed to maintain the chosen temperature.
Re-circulation shuts off the intake of air from outside and recycles air from within the vehicle (useful if you see smoke from a bonfire or such like ahead). Mono. Got me. What we all put up with before stereo was invented!
The most fuel efficient thing to do would be to not use the 'auto' setting unless it's a hot day. BUT, you should always run the aircon for a few hours every few weeks or so regardless, to avoid problems due to lack of use. Not sure what sort of problems exactly, but that's where my knowledge runs out!
