Boot/Trunk/tailgate issue - 159
My 159 saloon is approx. 14 months old - this weekend when opening the boot it made what sounded like a short creaking sound. It did this again the following day.
On closer inspection, it appears that the ball joint socket on the pistons had broken (on both of them). I've put this down to hinge mechanism which I would have thought should control the limit of the boot opening failing and so the pistons have been overly stressed (the ball sockets are only thin pieces of plastic).
What's very worrying is that, without the pistons to stop it, the boot lid would fold on to the rear window and, I suspect, shatter it.
The car's going in to our dealer on Wednesday so they can take a look. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?
