Re: 159 1.9 JTDm - Miles to the tank
I've only had my 159 JTDm for five weeks, but I have to say that fuel economy, or rather the lack of it, is the only ever so slightly disappointing aspect of the car. Maybe the engine will improve with age, but right now it's about 10mpg down on the diesel Saab it replaced, odd as I'm still driving my 159 fairly gently and both cars have essentially the same engine. Also the Saab loosened slightly as the miles built up, but the difference was barely noticeable, so I don't think that's the problem. I used to get better mpg figures from 2 litre petrol Golf GTi and Audi A4s. I love almost everything else about my 159, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever been able to match the consumption figures that Alfa quote in their advertising. Interestingly, my Sabb came from a dealer, the now departed Autecnique in Salisbury, that also owned an Alfa dealership right next door, their tech guy told me that the 1.9 diesel gave a lot less trouble in Alfas than the same engine did in Saabs, many of which suffered from the dreaded 'limp home' feature on several occasions, something he'd almost never experienced with an Alfa. My 159 is returning figures in the mid to low 30s, and that's not good for a modern diesel.
