Re: 270 BHP Diesel!
Lot of people dissing tuning boxes, mainly they seem to be those without experience, they wouldnt be so popular if they weres so bad you know. Be clear there are several types however, avoid the ones that just fool the cars air temperature, but those which actually work with the ECU (like a remap i guess) are fine and i speak from experience here.
I dont work for or represent anyone, but ran a 'Dragon' tuning box on my last car without any issues at all. It was a 150BHP 1.9TDI Leon and the box was adjustable with top setting bringing 194BHP. I had it set to about two thirds output and the car maintained 50MPG also. The car mid range out accellerated by pals civic Type R such was the torque. For me it was the best upgrade i ever made to a car in 10 years of 'tweaking' it really was a 3 minute fit, plug n play.
I suffered no engine issues at all, i did change the clutch but it was shot before the box went on, the box just finished it off. Once the new clutch was fitted the car ran 3 years trouble free. I paid about £300 for it and could take it off whenever i liked. I eventually sold it on ebay for £100 which was a steal and the guy got back to me telling me how chuffed he was too.
So, one set of comments with substance? used correctly they are fine, if something breaks IMO it was going to anyway. If an engine cant take up to a third in power increase without mechanical failure it was built 'way to near the mark' anyway and the manufacturers calcs are questionable. Just obviously dont go too crazy but these boxes do consider engine strength.
