Bracket snapped in engine bay!
The car's done 11,000 miles now and I'm currently working away in the West of Scotland that sees me driving 300 miles on a Monday morning and Friday afternoon - I can think of worse things to do actually as the 159 is well suited to such a long slog. I managed the journey in 4 hours this morning which is going some (as they say in the USA, do the math!!).
Worryingly, on Friday a loud vibration started to come from, my initial thoughts, behind the dash, only when setting off in 1st gear. I fiddled about making sure nothing obvious was out of place and finally worked out that it was actually coming from the engine bay.
There is a bracket that holds together the power steering fluid reservoir and the air intake pipe, and to my astonishment this had sheered in two! It looked corroded. It was one half of the bracket that was banging on another piece of metal making the noise.
I've managed to patch things up for now with superglue and insulating tape to stop the vibration (doesn't look like a major component to be honest, it sounded a lot worse!) and have arranged to take the car into Alfa on Saturday so they can order a replacement part.
If you have a similar noise, take a look a that bracket in the left hand side of the engine bay!
