I have to say in some ways AE are right. Alfa is lacking way behind in the engine department. A lot of you may say you don't get Alfas for fuel economy but for fun driving, which is right in many cases, but many other Alfa owners do care about economy and CO2 emissions. With car tax and fuel going up, Alfas are getting too expensive to run and they aren't exactly supercars....
I just hope the new 1.8 turbo engines redress the balance.
At the risk of being flamed;
Fraid I have to agree with MJ. I love my Spider to bits but putting passion for the brand and a desire to be original aside for a second, Alfas ARE too lardy (heavy), the engines are poor in power output and co2 emissions and appalling in fuel economy terms. Their engines are way behind our German and Japanese friends in technology. If Alfa had the R&D cash that BMW or Audi have they would be awesome and unstoppable.
But there in lies the issue, if Alfas were to become fuel efficient, eco friendly, light and furious, with their ongoing flair and beauty everyone would have one, where would that leave us in terms of being original!!
Its not just the people on this forum that appreciate fab design and great looks. the whole world wants that, but most are not prepared to put up with the quirks, idiosyncrasies, flaky build quality and inefficient engines. That place is left for us, hence we feel original and love ours
I guess Iím saying for 25 to 35K one canít have beauty, originality and cutting edgeÖ
