Re: Which new alfa
Bomberesque, you sound like me (1 month ago)!
I had just sold my 156 SW, and couldn´t make up my mind Brera/GT.
I needed something to drive 2 big dogs in, without having to have them them IN the car. I also needed something smaller and sportier to cure my mid life crisis :-)
I test drove the Brera 2,2 three times. To me it felt too much like a salon. "Absorbing bumps better" = less sporty? The driving position feels to high and the motor sounds like any car. All in all though, this may be what a modern car is like..? The 156 I swaped from was a model of considerable age, even though the car was built in 2004.
Enter the GT:
2. Older, but still more modern than the 156. As long as you don´t swap from 147, you´d think the interior looks fine and "new". (The Brera looks like a 159 inside, which is kind of a turn off, but the MY2008-modell looks fabulous).
3. I was feeling the same about buying an "obsolete" car. At least the front looks much like the 147 = not as good or "bad" as the 159/Brera. I somewhat got around it by buying a "Sportiva"-version (aka Blackline) which looks more modern with it´s 18" rims (same as Brera...) and it´s other special features. At least in sweden the car still is something extraordinary (only around 150 GTs registered in the country). People will still stop and stare in the street, and ask you how fast it can drive. And the behind of the GT looks almost better than the Brera!
3. The GT was 18 000 € cheaper than the Brera, which made me feel a lot more relaxed about the fact that it looks a little oldish ("Man, you car looks old!". "So what? It wasn´t very expensive")
4. I´ve got the feeling that the 159/Brera will be facelifted to look like the 8C from 2009 och 2010. Anything else would be strange, since the MiTo has that look. And then THEY will look old... I realized that buying cars thinking about having the newest look all the time is a Catch 22-situation.
I´m very satisfied with the GT, even though the next car probably will be a Brera... It´s good only having to choose from one brand at least :-)
