159 2.4 200 just back from service DPF/EGR/remap at AHM. Very pleasant to deal with and bill exactly as promised without hidden "extras." Knowledgeable and willing to chat. Adie knows that I used to be a mechanic so pointed out a couple of easy jobs that I would probably want to do myself rather than wait for the next service and charge then but he also did a few small jobs without charging. I was also given a free half litre of oil for top ups; not that I expect to use it as the car doesn't normally take any but we have only owned it for 5 months and 6,000 miles with 18,300 now showing so perhaps it will use a little but I do intend changing the oil and filter myself at mid service interval.
Report from remap:-
The car is now awake and always raring to go rather than a sleeping giant. 6th gear is usable with acceleration available from 50mph or just under (haven't found the point at which it judders yet but why subject the DMF to that.)
Pre-remap I was looking to change down for brisk motorway acceleration at anything less than 75(ish) but absolutely no thought of that anymore - just press the go peddle and go with a pleasant push in the back.
All flat spots are gone; but my recent EGR, throttle body and inlet manifold clean had eliminated most of that before it went to AHM.
It does smoke under hard acceleration but not so that you see it in the mirror; just feedback from my wife who followed me home (the Alfa is really her car!)
MPG - I don't know yet but the drive home readout was showing 38mpg between M4 J11 - J15 at 90 - 100mph but as this was from the dash it's probably inaccurate so I will do brim to brim ASAP but with mostly town pre remap average was 30 - 31 mpg and dash readout was about 0.5mpg low.
Rolling road shows:-
BHP pre = 197 @ 3676 with a hole between 2200 rpm and 3200 rpm
BHP post = 239 @ 3451 and the hole completely smoothed out.
Torque pre = 160 lb.ft @ 1800 rpm climbing steeply to 300 lb.ft at 2300 then flat until 3500 rpm before steadily falling away.
Torque post = 200 lb.ft @ 1800 rpm climbing steeply to 380 lb.ft at 2450 then flat (small step down at 2900) until 3500 rpm before steadily falling away.
Personally, like others here these cars are for driving not economy If you want economy get a new 1.6 diesel Focus and get 45 - 50mpg around town and 55 - 66mpg at 70mph on the motorway or even 45 - 50mpg at 85mph! I'll take the 159 any day but do understand why at 50,000 mile per year my boss puts me in the Focus!
Summary - just do it!
