Well got this bargain(ish) £9k and immaculate before reading about stuttering, EGRs, DPFs and poor fuel consumption.
Well a remap and DPF/EGR bypass are planned but it has the stuttering problem so what should I do about it; does it need to be cured before the surgery (new EGR and gaskets have had no effect) and are replacement valves and inlet manifold the only real answer and can I get Alfa to foot the bill on a car of this age?
Also to note: previous car was 51plate 10V 2.4 156 remapped to 190 - 200bhp (Angel Tuning) and side by side (wife driving 156 - she does love fast cars) the 156 blew the 159 away - actually blows away is a real understatement - it stomps all over it. 3rd gear and motorway slip road with me initially leading with foot on the floorboards and the 156 overtook easily and disappeared into the distance; we have done side by side trials at all rolling speeds between 30 and 80 and the 156 always just drives away! And from a standing start the 159 is, in comparison, a slug.
I guess the weight of the 159 kills acceleration. Also the 159 power is quite a bit higher in the rev range needing much, much more use of the gearbox but I guess a lot of that is the extra weight as well.
Another note: company car is 1.6 59 plate diesel Focus. Boring or what but always driven at astronomic speeds (frequent 80 - 100 mile trips at 100mph plus and a few rare down hill sections showing 132mph on the clock with foot nailed to the floor) and average over 72,000 miles (I do 50,000 miles per year) is 44.1mpg calculated from total mileage and total fuel used. Average 80-85mph and carefully predicting traffic and inclines can give 55+mpg. Best ever was Swindon to Watford not exceeding 55mph on the motorway (had 9 points on licence at the time) saw 78mpg over the 86 mile run! This thing may be totally boring but it's economy is truly astonishing. Also note that over that mileage actual dash computer readout is within 0.5mpg. Before I am arrested I spend a lot of time in Germany so those speeds are always on the Autobahns.
Pic below is dash readout - average 94mph over 72.7 miles.
