Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Update on the Spider 2.4 / 210 - I can make it get over 40 mpg but at even speeds of 50-60 mph. Normally about 37-38 mpg overall. I am not particularly light footed with it. After over 6000 miles now it is showing signs of loosening up and fuel consumption is slowly getting better. But it is the exhaust filter burn-off / regeneration which causes the poor fuel consumption, you can see the average mpg plummet every time it comes on. And it will do it 3-4 times per tankful if you do much town driving. Perhaps only once if open road driving.
The quoted figure for CO2 emissions for the car is exactly the same as my last car at 179 g (previous was 156 2.4/175). So it should get the same fuel consumption, yes? The 156 got 44-45 mpg after it had loosened up (took 10,000 miles). Except the computer used to tell me about 8 mpg higher than that - useless. The Spider computer reading is always less than 1 mpg out, generally reading slightly low.
I hope that Alfa are going to address this. They need to put different settings on the filter regeneration if they are going to achieve their quoted fuel consumption figures.
But sounds like I'm doing better than most of you on fuel consumption. Don't know why, unless it is because I don't do too much town driving, and my work journey is about 20 miles of mostly single carriageway A road. As I said, I don't spare the horses when the opportunity arises!
And I do like the car, despite the usual Alfa build quality and thus regular visits to the dealer to rectify small problems. Off there again tomorrow for yet more work on the wobbly driver's seat (which is the most comfortable driver's seat I have ever had by a long way) and the roof which will not open.
