I p/x my 2006 159 2.4 JTDm Lusso SW yesterday at Mangoletsi for a 2007 159 1.9 JTDm Lusso saloon.
The car is silver with black leather and Blue&Me, it has 17'' Diamond spoke alloys and 12666 miles on the clock. Ex-ARUK car, so one owner.
I am not the biggest fan of silver cars. However when I saw the 159 saloon in silver with the Diamond spoke wheels I thought it looked very nice. Not as stunning as my SW on 19'' Ti alloys but the car looks in proportion and very 'tight'. It has black leather as my previous SW but the seats in this one are way more comfortable than my SW ones. I am sitting in it the drivers seat rather than on it
- don't know if the seats changed on the '07 models but I feel happier with my driving position. Boot space is obviously smaller (but big for a saloon) and I will miss the 4 side pockets that came on the SW - these were handy.
It has Blue&Me - need I say more - even after 1 day I don't know how I did without this. No more CDs, no more bl00dy thing stuck in my ear - I can see all my phone book and see what I am playing
I love it
Driving wise...............I was pleasantly surprised. I had driven the car for 40 minutes before buying and then I was surprised too. Firstly fuel economy is running at about 10mpg more than the 2.4 JTDm - good for me
However it sounds just like anyother diesel car
No more beautiful growl/howl
and lots of torque.
But......no more surging, no more wait, wait, wait for the power to kick in on change from first to second..........the 1.9 is a smooth engine and delivers it's power very evenly - sure there is no big kick in the back but it just seems more driveable to me than the 2.4 ever was - was my 2.4 engine is need of an ECU update - I was assured it was up-to-date
It handles pretty well - on smaller 17'' wheels, TBH it could probably do with a set of 18'' just to sweeten the handling a little and perhaps some lower springs might also help but it is different to my SW - not as much weight. The steering is lighter as is the clutch. The steering does give good feedback however.
That is about it in a nutshell. Does it make me smile - yes
The more I look at the car the happier I am. It does look good in silver and I spent a few minutes this morning admiring it.
It needs to be debadged and I need an exhaust trim (quickly)
It would benefit from a set of 18'' wheels (but I am supposed to be economising
), a set of lower springs and a remap (not yet, perhaps after 20k miles) and maybe a boot lip spoiler ala Hunter
I miss the absolute power and the noise of the 2.4 JTDm, the twin tail pipes, the Alfa Romeo logoed calipers and my beloved 19'' Ti alloys (couldn't take them with me - they were part of the p/x on the SW).
Still it is only 3 years before I can change again and perhaps this 159 will have improved even more after that time
