The power of the 2.4 is fantastic, the return on economy is poor

The 1.9 diesel is a very good engine - not great but very good.

Look at it this way, if you paid a premium to get the significant power increase out of a petrol AND get better fuel consumption you'd be more than happy. I still think in the 159 the 2.4 is worth the premium over the 2.2JTS for those reasons (maybe not in the Brera though).
Short journeys will kill the economy.
I agree in the 159 the 2.4 is a reasonable price but in the Brera I just would not be able to justify the £3.5k premium for the very, very little increase in economy.

I also definitely get more mpg from Shell than Sainsburys/Tesco!!
