159 SW not a let down
I've had my '06 2.4 Sportwagon (Titano with roof bars and black leather) for 2 weeks now and haven't posted just to see if we can get through the first fortnight trouble free!
The 159 replaced an '04 156 2.4MJET 175bhp SW Ti. Its a world away from the 156 both in terms of the quality of finish, space, grip, ride and overall refinement. The 2.4 pulls and sounds a treat - its not the blast that the 156 was but at least there's no smoke and the brakes are sensational! Yes, yes, the fuel economy ain't brilliant but you can get 38-40mpg on a longish run.
It isn't without its minor niggles (would it be an Alfa if it didn't???): the tailgate rattles a bit over bumps (anybody else had this on the Sportwagon?) and there is the screen rattle (temporarily solved with silcon lube) and you do get the odd intermittent sqeak from the dash, but overall its a belter.
I get to choose between taking a 159 or a GT to work each morning....who needs a Ferrari or a Maser when Italian style comes this cheap!
PS. this is my fifth ' 02 Alfa 156 2.0TS, '04 166 facelift 2.0TS, '04 156 2.4 MJET, 04 GT 1.9JTD and 159 2.4MJET SW Lusso. I love the brand - have never been let down by the cars but understand the frustration of niggles. I am a shareholder in Halfords Silcon Lube!!!
