This one doesn't seem to want to go away!
My 159 1.9 JTDM was registered in Jan 2007. I bought it from an independent Alfa dealer in Sept 2008 - just under six months ago. That's when it got its first service with 12,400 miles clocked up.
With me so far? Good.
The car has now done 18,500 miles so I wondered what the position was on servicing. I did my research here and found that the service interval had been tweaked up to 21,000 miles and that the consensus seemed to be that the car could be left until 21k miles since it's under six months since its first and only service.
But... I just thought I'd check. Just in case. The upshot of various calls to dealers and Alfa is:
1) The indie dealer, two main dealers and Alfa all maintain that the service interval on Alfa 159s remains at 18,000 miles or ONE YEAR whichever comes first.
2) Alfa said that I would be OK waiting until Sept - one year since the last service when, at the current rate, I will have 24,000 miles on the clock. When I invited them to put in writing that this would not invalidate the warranty, they started to back off and said they will have to talk to the dealer.
3) Both main dealers said it was basically up to me but that to avoid possible warranty problems I should ignore common sense and get it done now.
Alfa have started a "case". How exciting! They say they will get back to me. I'm inclined to get it over with but still don't get it at all.
Sorry if this was a bit long. Best regards.
