159 Sportwaggon test drive – 1st impressions
I think I’ve mentioned on here before that our second is due imminently and I’m not convinced the GT will be up to the job of a family car !...i’d love to be wrong though.
Today I took out a 159 2.4JTD lusso for a test drive and first impressions were mixed, here’s the pros and cons from a quick 10mins drive :-
Looks great outside (although standard wheels looked bland)
Engine was pretty sprightly for such a big car
Handling was better than I expected
Steering feedback pretty good
Loads of room in the cabin
Seats – dreadful, uncomfortable and not very supportive
Dash – Wasn’t that impressed, looked too plasticky and I prefer the GT dash
Road noise – was hoping for a lot better but only marginally better than the GT
Didn’t feel that ‘high end’ inside. For a £25K car was expecting more
All in all it made me realise just how good the GT still is, I realise they are different cars aimed at different markets but that said the GT felt great to get back inside.
However that said I did say to the dealer I would still consider the 159 in TI spec so they showed me one and straight away the difference was incredible….admittedly I didn’t drive the TI but it looks how I expected the 159 should look inside and out…..what a difference !....they should have called the TI TC instead for a Touch of Class !
Not wanting to offend any 159 owners but for my the TI touches really make the car….although at a hefty premium !
Still been drawn to the JAG XF but not sure I can justify the cost.
Who knows may end up even sticking with the GT as I’m still enjoying it’s all round capabilities.
