159 purchasing decision
Many years ago my first company car was a 5 -6 year old 164 a 2lt Twin Spark and a truely fantastic car. I then had a round of dull company cars until finally I had to buy my own.
The lure of the Alfa brought me to a 166 Lusso 2lt Twin Spark which was a great car but a terrifiying ownership experience. We had a smashed headlight two weeks into ownership - with a £750 bill + £40 for headlight protectors, which seemed a prudent investment...
Other potential nightmares lurked and the thought of paying £120 labour to have a sidelight bulb changed eventually drove me to p/x the car at a massive loss for a more logical choice of transport.
Having had my fingers burnt, but now the blisters almost healed I want to play with fire again. I'm sorely tempted by a 159 1.9JTDm 16v Lusso. This time on a fully maintained contract hire to avoid taking the risks of depreciation and repairs.
I've been offered a deal on a pre-registered model but this is an 07 model and not exactly 100% the spec I would want. The deal doesn't seem too bad, but I would prefer the 08 model as from what I have read here there could be considerable quality improvements. However the dealer said that they would have to re-quote the contract hire when the ordered car was delivered and the price could be more.
Q) Is the dealer just putting the wind up me to shift the stock he has, or is this likely the case? Could it infact be cheaper? I have seen some of the deals that some have said they have got in autumn 07 and they seem to be very similar if not possibly better than what is being offered.
Help - really not sure what to do esp as this would be a first Contract Hire for me - also not sure of what the insurance situ is.
